Audio-guided tour of the Fresco of the Lyonnais

Move to:

Welcome to La Fresque des Lyonnais, a huge 800-meter mural, representing 24 local historical figures and 6 contemporaries. It was created in 1994-1995 by CitéCréation. This famous fresco was commissioned by Michel Noir, then mayor of Lyon, after the success of the Fresque des Balcons de Barcelona in Spain, also created by the artists of CitéCréation.

The selection of historical figures was made by various Lyon institutions, resulting in a list of twenty-four “Illustres”. At the bottom, six contemporary figures from Lyon are painted to interact with passers-by, accompanied by windows presenting a list of more than one hundred Lyon artists.

2000 years of Lyon's history are written on this wall. As you climb the floors, you will go back in time through the historical figures represented. From Saint Irenaeus on the 4th floor to Abbé Pierre on the ground floor, you will discover the great names who have marked the history of Lyon.
