Four-core staircase of the Petit Collège in Saint-Jean

5 place of Petit Collège

The Petit Collège is a must-see monument to visit in Old Lyon, located in the 5th arrondissement, on the square of the same name, near the Gadagne Museum. This former college, whose construction dates back to around 1630, was originally run by Jesuits. Among its notable rectors is Father La Chaise. Today, the building houses part of the town hall of the 5th arrondissement and occasionally serves as an exhibition space.

Its elegant open entrance invites the curious to take a peek to discover the large square staircase with four cores as well as the statue of Saint Jerome located just behind.

Arriving at the narrowing of the Rue de Gadagne, one can admire the superb leaded windows of the Palais Gadagne. The entrance to the palace is at the top of a few steps, while a pretty statue of the Virgin, unfortunately decapitated, stands opposite.
